Fourth Stimulus Check Update: Monthly $2k Petition Falling Short of 3 Million Signatures | Must Read!
A petition that started in 2020 and called for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks for every American throughout the pandemic is presently just over 3 million signatures shy of its goal. As of Saturday night, it has 2,984,500 signatures.
Requests for another round of stimulation checks may get stronger as the Omicron variant of COVID-19 spreads like wildfire, with record numbers of people catching COVID despite being vaccinated and sports leagues being hit severely by the virus.
Stephanie Bonin, a Denver restaurant owner, initiated her Change.org petition last year, and it has gathered support as many people stay unemployed.
“I’m encouraging Congress to offer immediate aid to families in the form of a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for children, as well as periodic payments for the duration of the crisis,” according to the petition.
Despite the fact that Bonin’s petition has gained over 48,000 new supporters in the last six weeks, Congress is unlikely to be influenced as a body.
The first stimulus checks given to Americans in 2020 were $1,200 per person, plus $500 for each dependent, under former President Donald Trump. They began to arrive in bank accounts in April 2020.
The second stimulus check was for $600 per adult and additional $600 for each dependent in 2020. A third stimulus check of $1,400 per adult was delivered following Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021.
Other petitions have been started in the hopes of receiving recurring monthly stimulus cash, although they are all far smaller than Bonin’s.
During the pandemic’s climax of lockdowns and mass unemployment, the petition with the most signatures was established. According to the petition’s organiser, seeing her coworkers suffer was agonising.
According to the petition, “our restaurant community is coping with seeing everything we’ve worked so hard for irreparably damaged.” “Our hearts sank as we watched our coworkers split the ingredients in our kitchen to go home: a pathetic gesture for folks who worked hard every day. Our talented and respected team, some of whom have been with us from the beginning 15 years ago, is now unemployed.”
In total, more than 4 million signatures have been collected on seven petitions. Biden, on the other hand, has made no indication that he will pursue a monthly payment plan. For the time being, at least.

Last April, more than 80 Democrats in Congress supported regular payments, including Vice President Kamala Harris. Six members of the Ways and Means Committee wrote to President Obama, pleading with him to include recurring monthly payments in the American Families Plan.
Regular payments would be too costly, according to the White House, but it has hinted that it might entertain a proposal proposed by Congress.
